Bortle sets how much sky glow you're fighting. At 6, emission nebulae with a dual-band filter are very doable; faint dust and reflection nebulae are hard.

I'm Bortle 6. Is it worth trying faint nebulae at all, or should I stick to clusters?

Clusters are a great start though, they cut through anything.
